INDICATIONS :
Glycerin IP 75% w/w suppositories are clinically indicated for the rapid, short-term relief of occasional constipation when oral treatments are ineffective or inappropriate. They are also indicated for lower bowel evacuation to clear the rectum in preparation for medical procedures, such as a sigmoidoscopy or a physical rectal examination.
USES :
This medication is used as a hyperosmotic laxative that draws water from surrounding tissues into the rectal cavity to soften hard, dry stools. Additionally, it lubricates the anal passage and mildly irritates the local bowel mucosa, which triggers natural muscular contractions to prompt a bowel movement within 15 to 60 minutes.
SIDE EFFECTS :
The most common side effects are mild and localized, including a temporary burning sensation, rectal discomfort, or minor tissue irritation immediately after insertion. Less frequently, users may experience mild abdominal cramps, loose stools, or increased thirst, while prolonged use exceeding one week can lead to laxative dependence and electrolyte imbalances.
